Patrick Swayze never played bad guys, but he did in Point Break and he owned the role.. Thug surfers are one of the best things about Point Break .. The title of the original Point Break screenplay by Rick King and W. Peter Iliff was Johnny Utah , the name of Keanu Reeves' character.. Co-producer Rick King, inspired by a LA Weekly article about Los Angeles being the robbery capital of America, was the first to imagine Point Break as a movie.. Tyler (Lori Petty) explains to Johnny that the name Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) is short for Bodhisattva.. Swayze auditioned for the role of Johnny Utah initially.. Two months before filming began, Reeves, Swayze and Petty trained with former pro surfer Dennis Jarvis on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.. Reeves plays a former quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes in Point Break and he has the same back story in one of his later movies: The Replacements .. Reeves and Swayze had been in a movie together before, 1986's Youngblood .. The show determined that the two men could not enter a free fall for 90 seconds, could not have held a conversation thanks to wind noise, but Johnny could have caught up to Bodhi if the latter jumped first and the second streamlined his body as they do in the movie.. On the Strange Days DVD commentary track, Bigelow reveals how she shot the frantic foot chase scenes of Point Break .. In the longest foot chase scene, when Utah chases Bodhi from the gas station, still wearing his Ronald Reagan mask, that's not Swayze.

In 1991, Kathryn Bigelow directed the now iconic action-thriller of the same name, imbuing the once somewhat unknown moniker with new meaning.. Since the film’s release over two decades ago it has become a cult classic and one of the most beloved action films of the 90s, even inspiring a reality play called Point Break Live!. The men of Point Break are Point Break in other words, men who jump out of planes, rob banks and ride the world’s biggest, gnarliest waves for more than just kicks.. COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY It was with this notion in mind that I made my way to Austria to visit the set of the Point Break remake in August 2014 along with a small group of fellow journalists.. The set in Austria would exist for a few days only, before being broken down and reappearing in different form in some other part of the world.. It was shot in over 10 countries and 4 continents.. The film includes a sequence shot at Venezuela’s legendary Angel Falls, which is protected and as such required much participation from the local government as well as numerous permits.. In terms of tone and the overall approach to Point Break , Kosove wanted to go back to what he feels action films used to be, with higher stakes, “real action, real consequences and people getting hurt”.. As such, the film explores themes of eco-terrorism and radical environmentalism as the driving force underlying the villains’ actions.. Luke Bracey won the role of Johnny Utah after an extensive audition process, and he got the part due to the fact that he seemed “real” and unaffected, according to Kosove.. Bracey came in to be interviewed with a face made up to look beaten.. Teresa Palmer pointed out that, coincidentally, her son’s name is Bodhi, and that she named him with no prior knowledge of Point Break or the character.. Despite these notable and very obvious differences, the underlying themes of the remake seem to remain firmly entrenched in what made the original Point Break so beloved; larger-than-life action set pieces, invigorating stunts, and deeper ideas of rebellion, anarchy, rejecting the socio-political status quo, living off the grid and finding what Swayze’s Bodhi had called “the ultimate ride”.

1” and “Kill Bill Vol 2.” While technically these films cover one story, they also feel like decidedly different movies.. That was not the method that Tarantino used for “Kill Bill, Vol.. “Kill Bill Vol.. Both “Kill Bill” movies were blanked at the Oscars, a rarity for Tarantino.. Both films received three MTV Movie Awards nominations, and both films won awards.. He combined both films with a lengthy animated sequence for what he called “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.” The film was screened in 2011 at the New Beverly Cinema, which Tarantino owns.. Starting in 2004, Tarantino started talking about making a third “Kill Bill” movie.. Then, he said he would make two anime “Kill Bill” movies.. Oh, and he said he would release a third “Kill Bill” in 2014 as his ninth film.. As recently as 2019 Tarantino said he was considered making another “Kill Bill” and then said he had changed his mind in the span of six months.. All the music in the “Kill Bill” films was taken from other sources, often other movies.

If you ever watched “Cribs” on MTV, you are at least tangentially familiar with “Scarface.” We’re talking about the film of that name from 1983 written by Oliver Stone, directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino.. While the original is inspired by Al Capone, Stone’s version of “Scarface” makes some distinct changes.. That original “Scarface” film?. Pacino saw Hawks’ “Scarface” and got the idea about making a remake.. The film ended up being directed by Brian De Palma, one of the most stylistic filmmakers ever.. Even though Pacino had the idea for remaking “Scarface,” it was not a given that he was going to star.. She had been in a flop “Animal House” adaptation for television called “Delta House,” where her character was just called “The Bombshell.” While she did star in “Grease 2,” that film came out in 1982, the same year they started filming “Scarface.” Both Pacino and De Palma did not want Pfeiffer for the role of Elvira, but Bregman kept fighting for her.. By the way, Bauer is the only actual Cuban in the principal cast of “Scarface.”. Durning also was in “Dog Day Afternoon” as well.. Even though “Scarface” is set in Miami, it was primarily not shot there.. The Miami Tourist Board declined the film’s request to shoot there, worrying it would make the city look bad since it’s about drugs and gangsters.. Since an acclaimed director was around, De Palma figured he’d put him to work.
